Spring catfishing in shallow water is some of my favorite fishing of the year! The spring catfish patterns are second to none in terms of fun and action and the catfish habits in the spring change quickly and drastically.
Not only can you catch tons of catfish while spring catfishing but you can catch big catfish as well and it’s a ton of fun catching blue and channel catfish in shallow water in the spring.
In this week’s video, I headed out to fish for some blue catfish in shallow water after my clients canceled on me. I was hoping to get into some red hot spring catfishing action but conditions were really tough. I literally had everything working against me that you don’t want when you’re looking for ideal fishing conditions and the best spring shallow water catfish bite. No wind, high barometric pressure, clear skies and post cold front conditions.
I headed out anyway in hopes I could get into some of these early spring catfish in their shallow-water pattern. I planned on doing a catch and clean video but headed back to the marina and found a surprise when I arrived.
It’s pretty disgusting but make sure you watch until the end of the video to see what happens. You just never know what you’ll find when fishing for catfish.
This video is jam-packed with spring catfishing tips so be sure to check it out and take it all in. For even more in-depth information on catching spring catfish check out my book on Spring Blue Catfish Techniques.
